What we did
Fifty of us gathered on the sidewalk in front of the federal courthouse in San Jose, standing shoulder to shoulder for a basic principle: everyone deserves due process and dignity. We lifted our voices in chants and walked together around the building, refusing to be silent as people are detained and disappeared without warning. We held up protest signs and posters honoring those who have been taken by the Trump administration’s cruel ICE policies, reminders of the real human lives at stake. People also stepped up to take individual photos with an “I Support Due Process for All” picture frame, sharing their commitment to defending fundamental rights. We handed out information from the ACLU and quick actions people could take right away to make a difference. I shared why this issue is personal to me, the current state of mass detentions, and how we can all take the next steps to protect our neighbors and our democracy.
What to do after
Do you believe no one should be snatched without accountability or justice? Take action!
- Volunteer for and support the Rapid Response Network, a community-based system with a hotline and trained volunteers to help individuals and families facing immigration enforcement.
- Call US Representative Ro Khanna at 408-436-2720 and contact Senator Padilla to protest the ongoing detention of Bay Area's own Ulises Peña López. Read more for details.
- Join us: we hold monthly organizing meetings, protests such as this (we organized No Kings Parade and Democracy Fair; Good Trouble rally is next), working to fight disinformation and spread the word of Trump's administration's harms, winning elections, protecting the right to vote, and more.
- Tell the Attorney General to stop ICE overreach.
- Demand unmasking of ICE agents through 5calls.org.
- Donate to groups fighting in court, like Public Citizen, who spearheaded this protest.
- Join our phone bank to oppose MAGA Murder Budget bill that will dramatically boost cruel, immoral ICE funding.
