With chalk, Bay Area sidewalks, plazas, and busy corners are our high-visibility pro-democracy cheap billboard. Just an hour or two outside, and we can remind thousands of neighbors that they're not alone, that there's work they can join.
We meet up regularly, pick a few good spots, and head out in small groups. People chat, swap ideas for short messages, and share chalk. You don't have to be an artist: simple, bold words are exactly what we're after. Kids and teens are welcome with an adult.
Our messages are non-harassing and family-friendly. We stick to public sidewalks and plazas, not private walls or buildings. In most places, sidewalk chalk is treated as temporary public speech that fades with rain or regular cleaning. But while it's there, a lot of people will see it.
